Re: Music Royalties
I know they only get paid for 50 years so Noddy Holder is shitting himself

Wrong.

Royalties to the songwriter(s) are paid until 70 years, after the death of the last writer. For example, the estates of Paul Mcartney and John Lennon, will receive royalties 70 years after the death of Paul Mcartney. Those songs will then be in the public domain. These royalties are known as "publishing" royalties

Royalties to the artist who recorded the song (as artists and songwriters are often not the same) are paid royalties until 70 years after the date of the recording of the song. These royalties are known as "artist royalties"

I think Noddy Holder's bowels are quite comfortable.

The big money earners are those who both write and record songs.

Plenty of guides to how royalties are collected, online.

Fella down the pub was in some band that had a dance track in the 90's, was on TOTP and all that, gets a cheque each year as apparently the song still gets played on various radio stations, and he shoves it intro his kid's bank account for when he's older.

Re: Music Royalties
PRS collect writers royalties in UK and pass on to either the publishers or the writers depending on the contracts.
PPL collects performance rpyalties of performers.
Sales and direct income for the master is collected y record companies generally via distributers or platforms.this included records, streams, downloads and sync licenses.
There are country based agencies and World wide based agencies. Since the internet collecting agencies have been moving globally but its still much easier for the PRS to collect from the BBC than some yank mob.

So, as I said before. There are many areas of income for performers and writers and there are countless middle men. Rule of thumb is if you have a big tune it generayes decent wedge otherwise expect little.

Re: Music Royalties
Put it this way if you can sing a song and create a melody line as you do so you own most of the song 80% of it .

Elton John could have been twice as rich if only he had an imagination.

Re: Music Royalties
I've wondered about this before, who gets what and who keeps track of it all, etc. In the film About a Boy, Hugh Grant plays a person who is just living off the royalties of a one hit wonder his old man had years ago. Very funny film by the way.

Re: Music Royalties
The copyright in a song in the UK lasts until 70 years after the songwriter/s death.
Noddy Holder and his offspring are good for a few decades yet
Copyright in a recording in the UK lasts until 70 years after it is first published (released). It used to be just 50 then Cliff kicked up a big fuss.
